Lace Embrace Class Descriptions
There will be 8 different classes – 4 in the morning and 4 in the afternoon. Each class will be 2 hours long. Class sizes are limited by the teachers. Pre-registration is required. Some of the classes are quite limited in size. It is recommended that more than 1 class choice be listed on the registration form. Classes will be assigned on a 1st come basis.

Payment for the kits will be to the individual teachers at Lace Embrace.
BEGINNING BOBBIN LACE
Teacher: SUE WELCH
Class Description: Bobbin lace is a beautiful lace make by “crossing” and “twisting” together bobbins of thread (or even yarn!) It is essentially a form of weaving without a loom. One of the stitches is even called “cloth stitch” because it looks like woven cloth. In this intro class students will learn how to “cross” and “twist” pairs of bobbins to create the cloth stitch as well as the most common background stitch - torchon ground. Students will use these stitches to make a key fob and a bookmark.
Experience Level: No prior knowledge of bobbin lace is required.
Supplies: All supplies will be provided by the teacher for use during the class.
The supply “kit” may be purchased for $20 to take home, which includes a pillow, 12 pairs of bobbins, bobbin holder, pincushion and pins, and cover cloth.

INTERMEDIATE SHUTTLE TATTING
NEEDLE MINDER BUTTON
Teacher: JOAN THOMAS
Class Description: Create a needle minder adapted & taught by Joan Thomas from a design by Wanda Salman. You can use Wanda's designs or my spinoff one using the picot comb, a gauge or using just your eye! We will tat around a button and attach a couple mighty magnets to keep your sewing needle handy! If you want to learn how to use your Clover Picot Gauge (or want more practice) - then this class is for you.
Experience Level: Intermediate or basic knowledge of shuttle tatting.
Supplies: Kit will be $5. The kit will include a pattern printout, 2 magnets, size 20 thread, and a button. There will be extra buttons available for $2.00. A set of magnets are $1.00 if you have your own 1", 4-hole button. A hot glue gun will be available, along with two (2) small and large Clover combs for people to try.

Class Size: Limited to 10 students.
LACY CROCHET TAPE LACE
Teacher: PAM COOK
Class Description: Using chain and double crochet, you will learn how to make a continuous tape lace. We will be using a size B for the class.
Experience Level: This is an intermediate class, not for beginners. You need to have basic crochet skills, as well as having some experience using a small crochet hook.
Supplies to bring: Both can be found at craft or knit stores

THE LACEY PAPER ART OF PERGAMANO PARCHMENT CRAFT
Teacher: LINDA REINHARDT-TROTTER
Class Description: Pergamano, also known as Parchment Craft, is a very satisfying paper art, and uses simple techniques. It involves using parchment paper, a strong and flexible translucent paper. The techniques used include tracing from a design, embossing or raising the pattern, perforating, cutting, painting and creative art stamping. You can make beautiful greeting cards, bookmarks, and cut out cards with stained glass effects among many other patterns. The Lacey borders made by perforations and cuttings are gorgeous and are the hallmark of the craft. If you see a Pergamano art piece, you would not believe they are made from parchment paper. This craft which started in Europe and then traveled to South America is now enjoying huge popularity worldwide.
In this class, you will learn to make a couple of simple designs, that will introduce you to Pergamano Parchment Craft.
Experience Level: Beginners welcome.
Supplies: All the tools and supplies will be provided by the instructor, Linda Reinhardt-Trotter.Fees:

AFTERNOON CLASSES 1:30 pm – 4:00 pm
ANKARS TATTING CLASS - INTERMEDIATE SHUTTLE TATTING
Teacher: JOAN THOMAS
Class Description: Ankars Earrings adapted & taught by Joan Thomas from a design by Stephanie Wilson. Let’s just tat rings! In this class, you’ll make a pair of earrings that feature very small picots (vsp) which give a slight dimensional look to your finished project.
Experience Level: Intermediate or basic knowledge of shuttle tatting.
Supplies: Kit will be $5. Kit will include pattern printout, 2 beads, size 10 or 20 thread, and 2 earring hook findings. Beading needle and needle nose pliers will be available for use.

Class Size: 10 Students
BEGINNING SHUTTLE TATTING
Teacher: PAULA BARNES
Class Description: Learn how to make chains and rings with a shuttle.
Experience Level: No experience needed.​
Supplies: We will provide a kit with shuttle, thread and instructions.
Supplies to bring:

Tatting supplies they have on hand if they would like (I inherited these…will they work?)

We will be using size 10 thread to start with.
Fee: none
Class size: Limited to 5 students.
MACRAME SAMPLER
Teacher: JANET CASE
Class Description: You learn how to make a macrame sampler. It will consist of a mixture of different knots. If you have done macrame before, it will include the basics like square knot, half knot, larks head and a twisted larks head, half hitch, double half hitch. We will cover how to estimate cutting your cords, adding cords, switching cords. Finishing a piece, making a button stitch.
Experience Level: Experience is always welcome but not required.
Supplies: $5 kits will include cords, T pins, and beads will be available (if you would like to add them).
Supplies to bring: Pillow or a macrame board if you have one. Don't go out and buy one if you do not have one unless this is something you've been wanting to do. You can make one very easily. Look on Pinterest under "How to make a macrame board". You can also use a clip board.
Fee: $5 Kit
Class size: Limited to 6 students.
QUILLING WITH A COMB
Teacher: CHARISSA DUNN
Course Description: After learning four ways to use the quilling comb, participants will apply their knowledge to begin creating a leaf in fall colors.
Experience Level: Any experience is welcome.
Supplies: $5 kit includes looping comb, quilling paper strips, toothpicks, and glue tray.
